Donald S. Lamm is a literary agent and former CEO of W.W. Norton Publishing Company,
where he both edited and published books. He joined Norton in 1956, where he worked
for 45 years, over half that time as president and chairman. He also served as the
chairman of the governing board of Yale University Press, as a trustee of Columbia
University Press, and is currently a trustee of the University of California Press.
He is the outgoing vice president of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Don was elected
to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1997, and he has been a fellow at
Stanford’s Center for Advanced Study. He was the 1998 Regents’ Lecturer at the University
of California at Berkeley. Don and his wife Jean are residents of Santa Fe. Don will
